8 Easy Ways To Optimize Your Website

Well, hardly…..but it really isn’t that much harder.

It’s all about links and getting your site set up correctly.

Hey – if you haven’t optimized your site for SEO, wake up and smell the roses. This is the easiest type of traffic you can get.

These are 5 advantages for Organic Traffic;

1. You don’t have to get your wallet out – yep – keep it in your pocket (What – you must be kidding?)

2. It is easy and straight forward (Well – sort of)

3. You can target certain keywords can get results very quickly (Yes – this is true)

4. You don’t have to write tons and tons of unique content – just enough to get indexed.

5. The Big G tells you what GOLD you are striking and all you need to do is tweak your site.


Below are 10 tips you can apply to optimize your website. This will improve your site’s visability in the search engines.


Optimize your website doing these things, and you WILL get MORE website traffic.


SEO Tip # 1 – Tag Me.

‘Title’ tags are essential. So are ‘keyword’ tags and ‘description’ tags.

Firstly – use the Google Keyword Tool. This is a Whiz Bang tool provided by Google if you don’t know already.


But a word of warning – don’t place all your big bets on this tool. It can be wrong.

However, that said – it is worth using it and trying many keywords, not just one.

Let’s run through a simple example.

Ensure every page has a title tag. Pretty obvious huh? Every page needs a relevant title. Make the name of the page the same as the keywords you are targeting. You have been to the Google keyword tool and discovered 5 keywords you want to target.

For the purposes of this example we will use the following phrase which has keywords in it.

‘how to make fast money’

You have checked the Google keyword tool and it is indicating there is limited competition for this phrase. First thing to do is name your new page exactly the same – use the same phrase.

So it should look like;

/how-to-make-fast-money.html

This will ensure the crawlers know exactly what your page is about.

Then use relevant keywords in the ‘keyword’ tags.

And finally, use a good relevant description in the ‘description’ tags.

So to summarize this Tip:

1. Make sure every page you create has a title tag.

2. Make sure every page you create has a ‘keyword’ tag.

4. Search for a low competitive title using the Google keyword tool and use that phrase as your title.

5. Do it for every page you create.

If you target low competition phrases and long tailed keywords, you will pick up the traffic that no one is targeting. This is much easier traffic than trying for the highly competitive keywords.


SEO Tip # 2 – Get Backlinks

Link to your site from as many other places as you can.


Try to get relevant incoming links and deep link into your site.

So, if you find a blog about Making Fast Money, but the post you find is about Making Fast Money From Home – go there and make a comment, and create your own page about Making Fast Money From Home and link to it.

Comprehend?

Deep link and link relevant incoming links to relevant pages within your site.


SEO Tip # 3 – Webmaster Tools

If you don’t have a Google Account – then get one before the sky falls on your head. Log onto Google Websmaster Tools. Submit your site map.

The google account allows you to use the Google Webmaster Tools and these tools tell you everything about your site.

You will need to create a site map and upload it to your site.


This is so easy to do even my dog could do it and he is not particularly bright.

Simply go to places like XML Site maps and generate your site map. Upload using your FTP uploader thingo.

Once you have uploaded it, the Big G will come sniffing around and digest all your information.

Then – you will be able to view the statistics of how the Big G views your site and fix errors accordingly.

EASY !


SEO Tip # 4 – Labels

If you include any images in your pages, make sure you label them.

“What Do You Mean? Label them? Huh?”


Crawlers cannot read images.

If you put an Alt tag on every image – this tells the crawler what the image is about.

Great for targeting keywords and using images to pick up the search engine’s interest.

This is easy to do and it generates great Search Engine Traffic. You will be very surprised how your images get picked up and how visitiors find your site using this technique.

Make sure every image has an Alt Tag or Attribute.


SEO Tip #5 – Wheat, Barley, Grain……Huh?

Structure your site in a SILO configuration. This is really important if you want good search engine rankings.

SEO Tip #6 – Geeeez – You’re Awesome!

Write AWESOME headings.

Write AWESOME titles to your posts.

Write AWESOME titles to your page names.

Relevant titles and titles that other people might be searching for.

When you create a heading of your post or page, this often creates the url of the page. This happens in WordPress for example when you have set it to permalinks.

Read another post on permalinks.

This makes a big difference.


Do some research when you create the heading. Put your heading into the Big G and see if there are any competitors.

Then, put it into the Google keyword tool and see if there is any interest in your heading.

By just tweaking your heading slightly, you can pick up twice or three times as much traffic through organic search. This in the long term is going to make a BIG difference.

Spend 5 miutes checking to get long term search results – definetly worthwhile so

DON’T BE LAZY – DO IT.


SEO Tip #7 – Name It

Label your pages like this……

For example, if your page name is – Make Money In The Fast Lane

Your page name should be;

make-money-in-the-fast-lane.html

not

MakeMoneyInTheFastLane.html

or

Make%20Money%20In%20The%20FastLane.html

Makes sense huh?

You want it to not only be clear for the search engines crawling your site – but you want it to LOOK PROFESSIONAL.

Looking good makes all the difference. How many times have you been to a website and seen dodgy page names, poor layouts, grainy images and bad spelling.

ALL of these things make a HUGE difference.


SEO Tip #8 – Your Best Dance Move

When you are backlinking – yeah, it’s not a dance move…..MAKE SURE you use your keywords as ‘Anchor Text’.


Anchor Text is the BIG TEXT that Google throws out the side of the ship to stop them floating away. OK, bad joke.

Are you a geeky computer programmer that can hammer out code like it is your first language?

Well, it’s not all bad news for us that are technologically challenged. The good news is – it is all about what you say.

You need the skills to write well and present your website well. Do this, and you will attract repeat visitors and new visitors. It has nothing to do with auto traffic spamming code generators.

If you are serious about your business online, you will write everything to the best of your ability, present your website professionally and persist until you get success.

Combine this with networking with others, articles, press releases, posting comments on other blogs in your niche and a few other techniques and slowly but surely you WILL get traffic.

OK, it’s not going to hit you fair and square between the eyes, but chances are if it did – it would be rubbish traffic.

Yes – you could buy it, but hey, there is no challenge in that is there? You want it FAST. You want it NOW. and You want it FREE.

There are many places to find free traffic. In fact, the internet is saturated with traffic building techniques. This however, creates a big fat problem.

Which techniques actually work?

Which techniques work better than others?

Which techniques send long term traffic?

How much time is it going to take?

Here are 10 Golden Rules for getting more website traffic to your blog – and yes, they are all free – YIPPEE !

Apply these rules and you will get traffic.


Master Of None

Got a blog? Got a Website? What is it about?

Is it about everything?


Have you heard the saying – “Jack of all trades Master of None?” This is critical at start up phase. Your blog needs to be narrowly targeted.

If it is about Cars – Narrow it further. Make it about high performance luxury cars.

If it is about Craft – Make it about Craft for kids.

Got the idea?

Focus on doing this first, until you start getting lots of repeat readers and then slowly start to broaden your topics.

People need to know exactly what your blog is about as soon as they arrive. Visitors that are interested in your topic or niche, will hang around, bookmark it, and come back again.

The others that are not interested won’t – but you don’t want them anyway, so tell them to shooo….!
