If you are going to go into business and sign a lease, make sure you get a solicitor or lawyer to review it with you.

This means sitting down and reviewing it together. Don’t let the solicitor just email you the lease. You need to discuss it with him step by step so you know exactly what you are getting yourself in for. Leases are complicated documents and it pays to ensure that you know exactly what you are in for.

If you are into internet marketing, chances are you are working from home after hours trying to make a buck. One day, and the day will come when you will be making enough money and have to employ others. Either, you employ them over the web or you employ them in an office. If you employ them in an office, there is a big chance you will be leasing your premises.

This is when your business becomes serious and you need to think carefully about the consequences. Make sure you look carefully at the lease and make sure you have read every little detail. It will make a difference because you will then know what you are liable for.

Do you have a team of people working for you? If you do, you will know how much of a headache it really can be. However, it does not need to be this way.

How can you possibly make any money if you are spending your time fixing their mistakes, doing your own work, making sure they are working, checking their salaries, making sure you are keeping up with the law…….ARRRRGGGG!!! It goes on and on and on and before you know it you are overweight, stressed and ready to throw in the towel!

Well, don’t just give up yet. Running a small business can be on of the most challenging things you can attempt to do. No wonder so many of them go broke in the first year of operation.

To avoid that – this is what you should do NOW if you haven’t done it already.

Write out every task that your team member performs in 1 day.

So, if you have an Administration person – list out on a big list every single task they are doing.

Then, once you have done that – add in all the tasks you want them to do.

Once this is done – put a heading on the sheet – Position Description.

Have a meeting with them, and go through each and every task. Do this for each team member.

Once they know EXACTLY what is required of them they will perform better. Often mistakes occur because communication breaks down or your team member does not know what to do.

If they have this list you have created – and they are still not performing, then maybe you should consider why they are working for you.

This is a good start to making your business much more efficient and getting your team to work for you instead of the other way around!

Got a small business? Small businesses are hard work. I tell you now, if you don’t aim for the top with a small business, you will quickly discover all you have is a job.

Why would you want to have a small business and just have a job? All that extra headache for nothing! You could probably get paid better working for someone else.

This is why it is CRITICAL that you aim high with your small business and smash all those previous records that you have set.

You ultimate goal for a small business should be to sell it. That’s right, whether it is to one of the larger companies or your senior employees, you need to have an exit strategy.

So, what should you do to get your small business hammering?

SET UP SYSTEMS

Get your systems right, fine tune them and apply them. If they are humming along ok, you should be able to turn your small business into a medium size business quite easily.

So – get your self an electronic procedures manual. Get you team members to help you add to it and refine it as you go.

Then – USE IT. Make sure it works.

Have a system for everything you do in the business and then you will find things a lot easier to get done than before.

When one of your new employees asks you or your senior team member how to do something – the standard response should be

CHECK THE PROCEDURE MANUAL!!!

This is the beginning of your systems and is the only way to free up your time and make more money through less effort.
